Web Server Administration
I currently lease a
Linux web server with a 10Mbit unmetered
line located in San Jose, California. The server
uses the Plesk 8.2 control panel. I administrate
the server using the SSH protocol. I have installed,
configured and maintained Plesk, PHP, MySQL, Zend
Optimizer, IonCube Loader (Plesk version), and
Xcache. I
have optimized my configuration files such as the php.ini, my.cnf, and apache httpd.conf
as well as installed Xcache software to lower server
load.
Gaming Server Installation
& Administration
I am a fan of the
popular first-person shooter Counter Strike: Source.
CS:S is an extremely flexible online environment
with numerous modification plug-ins, scripts, and
tools to change the game play. The server
installation is completed from the command line on
both Linux and Windows platforms. After the base
server installation is complete there are
configuration files that need to be manually created
for further customizations.
Products like
MetaMod: Source
(SourceMod),
Mani-Admin-Plugin and
EventScripts
can be used to completely modify the game-play. Each
product is installed differently and independently.
Information Technology &
Systems Management Experience
I have worked within
the Information Technology field since I was 17
years old. I started off with web development and
then my knowledge quickly spread to software,
programming, and hardware areas of technology.
After establishing a
successful music download service, web-hosting and
networking gained my interest. I started off with a
few networking house-calls with a computer company
in my hometown. I was setting up networks using
HUB/repeaters and a proxy server. Around the same
time home routers began to flood the market, which
was much easier for the average person to install at
home.
Later in high school
I was hired at Staples Business Depot where I worked
in the electronics department. It didn't take me
long to start helping out in the Tech Centre fixing
customer computers and electronics.
After spending a few
years in retail I continued my education at the Nova
Scotia Community College seeking a diploma in the
Information Technology Systems Management and
Networking course.
After graduating from
the NSCC, I was hired at the Graybar Canada Head
Office for a work-term of 3 months. During my time
at Graybar Canada I
migrated 475+ employees to a new in-house e-mail
solution. At that time the email services were
hosted by their internet service provider.
I was in-charge of
scheduling, calling, and performing the upgrade on
each employee's computer during regular work hours.
Using DameWare, a remote desktop application, I was
able to remotely connect to the users machine and
import their Outlook data into the new Outlook
Exchange profile. I was also required to create
their Exchange Mailbox and change the users SMTP
information within the Active Directory. After the
user was successfully migrated I had to add their
username/password to another software title called "POPtoEXCHANGE".
This product checked the users old POP e-mail server
for mail while the migration was taking place.
As I completed the
upgrade, I was assigned to general I.T. duties such
as answering the phone, desktop support, server
monitoring, and network design documentation.
In January 2008, I
was
employed by Keane Canada as a Technology Consultant for
the Morgan
Stanley Project. My training consisted of Autosys and
Unix Aurora environments. After a year of employment
I was promoted to Backup Team Lead, and only a few
short weeks later I was promoted again to Team Lead
of the dayshift team.
In April 2009, I was
offered a position at the Head Office of Graybar
Canada on the IT Infrastructure Support team. I
support, deploy, and maintain desktops, laptops,
multi-function units, some servers, as well as other
devices. I was also given the opportunity to support
all Nortel Business Communication PBX systems.
During my time with
Graybar I have deployed Windows SharePoint Services,
Windows Deployment Services, numerous
desktops/laptops/multi-function units and developed
an online corporate directory. My daily duties at
Graybar consist of managing the daily backups and
preparing them for off-site pick-up; event log
checking on numerous servers; alert monitoring;
computer system maintenance and deployment; taking
calls from the IT Support hotline; and many other IT
duties.
